Thanks to the teaser for the upcoming season of The Boys on Saturday — to say nothing of its recent animated spinoff: The Boys: Diabolical — anticipation for the further adventures of Hughie, Butcher, and rest is at a fever pitch. It’s almost a shame we still have to wait until June to see the mayhem.
The month will also bring with it the third (and final) of Dynamite Entertainment’s Boys Oversized Omnibus hardcover releases. The volume will collect issues #49-72 of the original series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and the Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker miniseries. The deepest, darkest secrets are revealed as Wee Hughie is guided by Mallory through the early history of The Boys — including their first face-off with The Seven. Butcher’s life with Becky before it all went bad also gets examined. And just as it seems Billy will finally get his revenge, Homelander starts a literal superhuman war. Will Hughie be able to save the day?
“With Season 3 of the Amazon Prime show about to launch, people are showing a lot of interest in the original comics,” Robertson said in a statement. “And these omnibuses have been a great opportunity for new readers to jump in and discover the original stories that inspired the show.”
“Great to see these new editions from Dynamite,” added Ennis. “I hope there’ll be many more.”
As with the earlier omnibi, this collection will also feature sketchbook excerpts from Robertson and Russ Braun, curated scripts with commentary and art process, and a pinup gallery. It will also reprint the original series outline with added commentary from Ennis.
The Boys: Oversized Omnibus Hardcover Volume Three is slated for release in June.
