An Alien Hides In Plain Sight In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Naomi’

Now that Naomi (Kaci Walfall) and her team have an alien detector, they’ve discovered a troubling truth — another extraterrestrial is in the house. Now, as seen in this preview for next week’s Naomi, she must determine who the other alien is and why they are at her adoptive parents’ wedding anniversary before an arbitrary clock runs out. Will she learn the truth in time?
If you’ve read the Naomi comic, you know there is a one likely suspect. The show has worked pretty hard to make them seem human, but there’s just enough plausibility left for them to still be a former citizen of Rann. It would be interesting to see things play out that way — especially the explanations this character would need to make once outed — but it might also be a nice swerve for, say, Lourdes (Camila Moreno) to be the other alien.
Should that turn out to be the case, we hope her intentions are benevolent as the show went a long way this week in diffusing the remaining conflicts between the characters romantically interested in Naomi at the start of the season. Indeed, it’s been nice seeing Anthony (Will Meyers) and Nathan (Daniel Puig) bond over the last several episodes, but including Lourdes in their dynamic is a surprisingly mature and compelling idea. It would be so easy to keep the three as rivals. Uniting them to make the local comic shop better is a fresh idea and we hope it continues to be a subplot through the rest of the season even if everyone is wrong about The Lord of the Rings.
Also, it was nice to see Josh (Aidan Gemme) have a moment to shine and finally be identified as Annabelle’s (Mary-Charles Jones) boyfriend. Although their relationship was mentioned in press materials, it was never really established in the show itself. And then Josh disappeared for six episodes, suggesting there might not be room for the character. Now, he has a more central role and, hopefully, it will lead to something meaningful for the Scooby gang dynamic the show flirts with.
