Convention Update: Lawless In Two Weeks – Celebrating All Things 2000 AD & More!

by Richard Bruton

After way too long without conventions, we’re happy to be able to report that 2022 is shaping up rather spectacularly for conventions here in the UK – case in point… Lawless Comic Con is returning for a two-day show on May 28th & 29th 2022.

Conventions here in the UK tend to split into two branches. The first comes with loads of media names, very expensive signature and photo opps, and often very few actual comic events (you know the ones – big splashy flyers declaring it’s the only UK convention for the third Stormtrooper on the left from the Death Star scene).

And the second are the real comic conventions, the ones that actually celebrate comics and comic creators. These can be huge festival-type things such as Thought Bubble (more on that later on sometime this week – 7th-13th November, Harrogate) and The Lakes International Comics Festival (14th-16th October, Bowness-on-Windermere), or smaller affairs such as Plymouth Comic Con (which you’ve just missed) or Comics Salopia 2022 (25th-26th June 2022, Shrewsbury) where our very own Senior Editor, Olly MAcNamee will be hosting many of the panels across the weekend.

And then there’s Lawless, the Bristol-based 2000 AD-themed convention that takes place in a couple of weeks on 28th-29th May 2022.

It’s got rather a fine list of BIG names for comics and 2000 AD…

Yep, just your who’s who of 2000 AD and Brit comics there, including Brian Bolland and John Wagner, two of the biggest names in 2000 AD history!

It’s a small con, friendly, inclusive, celebratory, and full of stars of comics, together with panels, cosplay and much more. Basically it’s a big get together to meet some great creators as well as great new talent and the ever-present self-publishing scene in the UK.

Have a look at the website and definitely mark your diaries for this one. This year;s programme is provided by Lawless sponsors The 77 Publications and will also be available to purchase online for those that can’t attend the show, with all proceeds will be donated to Lawless’ chosen charity CALM.
