Jughead And Veronica Put On A Magic Show On Next Week’s ‘Riverdale’

by Rachel Bellwoar

Looks like Riverdale might be paying homage to Nightmare Alley. While it’s not exactly clear from the promo what tricks Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) are going to be performing, Jughead does have a blindfold and, given his abilities, reading minds seems right up his alley…

The question is whether he’ll regret diving into Betty’s mind on this week’s episode. The goal might’ve been to help Betty (Lili Reinhart) grapple with her subconscious, but all Jughead seems to have taken out of the experience is memories of what it was like when he and Betty were dating. It’s the truth, though, Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) leaves town — not for some R&R but because she’s trying to help them figure out a way to stop Percival (Chris O’Shea) — and Jughead’s already pining for his ex?

“Venomous” was a particularly incestuous episode of Riverdale overall. Veronica invited Betty for drinks. She didn’t ask her to bring Archie (KJ Apa) along, yet apparently the (former?) besties can’t be alone in a bar together, and it all leads to Veronica kissing Archie with Betty’s permission (because somehow that’s better than her last kiss being with Reggie (Charles Melton) — debatable).

The best part of the episode, though, might’ve been seeing Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) become the go-to person for everyone’s questions about the supernatural. The same person consulting a magic 8 ball for dating advice is the person Archie is trusting to “forge” him with witch fire, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Riverdale airs Sundays on The CW.
