Exploring New Titles On Shonen Jump’s Manga Plus

by Tito W. James

Manga Plus is an online manga reader as part of Shonen Jump Magazine. Manga Plus is where you find find more experimental titles. Some successes include the breakout hit Spy x Family. So if you want something other than your typical shonen battle manga or if you just want to read Chainsaw Man, Manga Plus is a great place to explore. The following are some titles that stood out to me. Who knows, one or all of these series could be the next anime sensation.

Kaiju No 8

Kaiju No 8 is about a man working as part of a clean-up crew for Kaiju attacks who gains the ability to morph into a human-kaiju hybrid. The premise is like Devilman but with Kaijus and could appeal to fans of Ultramega.

Blue Box

Fans of sports manga and romance manga may have found their one true pairing in Blue Box. The story centers on the relationship between a boy on the badminton team and an older girl on the basketball team. One Spring day, their relationship takes a sharp turn…

Ayakashi Triangle

Exorcist ninja Matsuri spends his days fighting monsters called ayakashi to protect his childhood friend Suzu. But when an ayakashi cat shows up, Matsuri gets turned into a beautiful girl. Ayakashi Triangle is like an update of Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2 by To Love Ru illustrator Kentaro Yabuki. Fans of ecchi comedy with a dose of action will dig this one.

Dandadan follows a boy who doesn’t believe in ghosts and a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens who are confronted with the fact that both actually exist! This absurdist, supernatural, scifi, action comedy is packed with “out of this world” ideas.

Sakamoto Days

Taro Sakamoto appears to be an average convenience store owner and family man. However, he is actually a former legendary assassin, feared by villains and admired by hitmen. This action comedy manga follows Sakamoto’s days trying to suppress his violent past and live a normal life.

The Elusive Samurai

The Elusive Samurai is an adventure series set in Feudal Japan by Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom). When a young boy’s clan is wiped out, he must use his skills at evasion and cunning to assemble allies and seek out revenge.

OSHI NO KO explores the dark underbelly of showbiz in this shocking new thriller. When a doctor in the countryside meets his favorite teen idol in the worst possible way, the gears of fate are set in motion. This is a series where it’s best to go in cold. The first chapter left my jaw on the floor and I believe it could be the next mind-bending series manga fans have been waiting for.
