Is Bristol Is The Place To Be This Weekend With Both Lawless And Upfest Happening?
by Olly MacNamee
While other comic book blogging websites tend to lean towards posting about comic cons happening in London, we here at Comicon.com HQ like to spread our net a little further. And, possibly, let you in on that something extra too.
As previously reported by our very own Richard Bruton, Lawless comic con returns this weekend (Saturday 28th May – Sunday 29th May) to the Double Tree Hilton in beautiful Bristol with many fans, I dare say, staying for the two day event. With guests like industry giants such as Brian Bolland – who rarely does cons these days – John Wagner, John Higgins, as well as the up-and-coming next generation of legends like Dan Cornwall, Anna Morozova and more, it should be a big pull, as well as an alternative to the hustle and bustle of London’s MCM show happening too. Especially with a cap on attendees.
I’ll be there on the Sunday (soaring petrol prices and hotels have prevented me, sadly, from a two day stay) and here’s the schedule for all the panels happening across the weekend:
But, if you are heading down, why not make a real weekend of it and take in the sights of Europe’s largest street art festival, Upfest, happening in Bedminster, a borough of Bristol, and free. With live art happening across the weekend, there’ll be a real buzz about the whole city and as someone who co-directs his very own street art festival here in Birmingham – High Vis Street Art Festival – I’ve seen the crossover potential first hand when we had our own pop-up comic con two years running.
Oh, and if like me you’re a Liverpool fan, there’s the Champions League Final too. What a weekend! See you there, somewhere.
