Last time there was a lot of hype about Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) crossing over to Riverdale (or Rivervale, as it was at the time) her screentime was extremely limited. Going by the trailer, “The Witches of Riverdale” isn’t going to make that same mistake but airing new episodes every other week is becoming a pattern of Riverdale’s, and it looks like Sabrina’s coven will have to wait until July 10th.
Never let it be said, though, that Game of Thrones is the only show that can pull off a Red Wedding. Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) might’ve been able to make it through their vows, but now Fangs, along with Riverdale’s other firstborns – including Archie (KJ Apa) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) – have been killed by Percival’s latest plague.
The good news? Given that the show is never going to let that many leads stay dead, the odds of Nana Rose (Barbara Wallace) being rescued seem better than they might’ve otherwise. No way does that woman survive being engulfed by flames only to be killed by Percival (Chris O’Shea).
Speaking of Percival, the stockade was never going to hold. That would’ve been too easy, but it didn’t even last the episode? Riverdale has made sure Percival lives up to his supervillain name, but what if they’ve made him invincible? Given how anti-climactic TBK’s death was two weeks ago (still no unmasking), they need to do better with this storyline.
And finally, this may have been the longest the series has gone without resurrecting the love triangle between Archie, Betty (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica (Camila Mendes) but that was a good thing. Veronica might miss her lovers but then she should get to meet someone new, the way Jughead met Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook).
Riverdale returns July 10th on The CW.
