Life Simulation RPG ‘Harvestella’ To Be Released This Fall From Square Enix

by Gary Catig

There were several life simulator games announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct. Some had tie-ins with previous brands such as Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom and Disney Dreamlight Valley. One that incorporated Square Enix’s brand of storytelling and RPG gameplay was Harvestella.

The title features concept art from Isamu Kamikokuryo (Final Fantasy XII) and music by Go Shiina (the Tales series). The story places players in a striking setting influenced by the changing seasons. Harvestella offers a variety of gameplay, such as managing crops on a farm, forming friendships with the small town’s citizens, and exploring perilous dungeons. Read the official synopsis below:

Harvestella is set in a vibrant and colourful world where four giant crystals called “Seaslight” create a stable change between the four seasons. The adventure begins as abnormalities in the Seaslight begin to appear, creating the “Quietus,” a season of death that takes place between the naturally occurring four seasons. During the Quietus the crops wither and people cannot venture outside, and troublingly, these seasons are mysteriously growing longer with each year.

In this life simulation RPG, you will grow crops, gather ingredients to cook and build helpful items, and step into the overworld, which vibrantly changes based on the season. On your journey, visit different towns, interact with townsfolk, go fishing and more. There are various jobs to select including Fighter, Shadow Walker, and Mage. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses as you investigate dungeons with your party to learn the origins of the world as well as the truth behind the upcoming calamity.

Harvestella will be available digitally for PC via Steam and both digitally and physically on the Nintendo Switch this November 4, 2022.
