SDCC 2022: ‘Darkwing Duck’ Returns To Comics In 2023
by Erik Amaya
Who is the terror that flaps in the night? Who is the hero ripe for a comic book return? It’s Darkwing Duck!
On Friday, Dynamite Entertainment announced plans for a new series starring the enthusiastic nighttime crusader. Created by Tad Stones, the original animated series debuted in 1991 and centered on the seemingly humble Drake Mallard, a duck who secretly patrols the streets of St. Canard as the titular masked hero. When audiences first met him, he was in the process of building a team with Launchpad McQuack and a family with his adopted daughter Gosalyn. Despite his somewhat dark superhero demeanor, the stories were often filled with action and slapstick comedy as both Darkwing learned to share both aspects of his life with other people.
In addition to the new comic book series, Dynamite will also released a facsimile editions of the 1991 Darkwing Duck limited series released by Disney Comics with contributions by John Blair Moore and others.
The new Darkwing Duck will be published in 2023.
