‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ Needs Your Attention!
by Tito W. James
Brilliant attorney Woo Young-woo tackles challenges in the courtroom and beyond as a newbie at a top law firm and a woman on the autism spectrum. Woo’s unique perspective is brought to life via animation and other creative mixed-media. Extraordinary Attorney Woo manages to do the impossible and gets the audience to empathize with… a lawyer.
Obligatory lawyer joke aside– this series is a pleasant surprise! It is quite challenging to accurately represent neurodiversity while also delivering fun entertainment for the casual viewer. The actress, Eun-bin Park, who plays Woo Young-woo, captures many of the nuances and behaviors of some individuals who live on the autistic spectrum. However, this is also a K-drama so viewers can expect plot-twists, romance, excellent cinematography, and off-beat humor.
While Attorney Woo is the main character the supporting cast have their own charm– and in some cases ulterior motives. Overall, the show gave me similar vibes to BBC’s Sherlock— A character with a unique mind solving cases too strange for others to crack. I hope more viewers of all stripes will give Extraordinary Attorney Woo their attention.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo is currently streaming on Netflix.
