Australian singer/songwriter/producer/DJ Alison Wonderland released her third studio album, Loner, in May 2022, reflecting on isolation and redemption in the face of the pandemic. Now, in winter 2023, Wonderland and Z2 Comics will release Loner the Graphic Novel.

Co-written by Wonderland and Z2 Comics co-founder Sridhar Reddy and with interior art from Minomiyabi, Alex Heywood, Kelsey Ramsay, BRÄO, and Taylan Kurtulus, Loner the graphic novel expands on the themes of Loner the album, giving you, according to Z2’s PR, something that channels the themes of the music “into a dimension-spanning, psychedelic personal journey of creation and loss. The project explores the waves of panic, grief, and forgiveness that come with the highs and lows of making something beautiful. Ranging from real-life conflicts of bullying and anxiety to otherworldly sci-fi dealing with metaphysical monsters, Loner also features a fully-playable fantasy RPG module complete with character sheets and map.”

Wonderland’s songwriting has been described as ‘visceral and raw,’ crafting ‘heartache and hurt into empowering mantras’ all of which feeds into her music along with beats that create her ‘futuristic soundscapes.’

But with Covid and lockdowns, Wonderland talks of her life ‘going a certain way before something pulled everything out from under me. It left me entirely alone, and it all happened around the same time as COVID. I felt like I had hit my rock bottom.’

But having the time to work things through, she made Loner, an album where she says that ‘something shifted in me, and I decided that I didn’t want to be the victim anymore. Instead, whatever I wrote from here would empower me, and help me find strength in this loneliness.’

‘I owe it to whoever else is out there who was like me, wishing that they had an album like this to empower them to feel less alone and know that it’s all going to be okay one day. In 2022, as we emerge from past years of cloudy, turbulent change, Loner has arrived just in time to remind us to look ahead to a better tomorrow.’ – Alison Wonderland

‘At Z2 we’ve always felt the best stories, no matter how fantastical or out there they may be, have to always come from a place of genuine truth. Working with Alison on this project was a gift to the creative team because, like her music, she was truthful and open to the story she wanted to tell. It’s very much her emotional journey, and we count ourselves fortunate to be on this ride with her.’ – Co-writer Sridhar Reddy.

As usual, Z2 Comics and Alison Wonderland present Loner in both softcover and hardcover formats, including the deluxe edition containing a hand-signed edition of the book, four prints, a limited edition CD of the album with exclusive art, and (interestingly) a custom pair of Crocs shoewear.

You can pre-order Loner from www.z2comics.com/alisonwonderland for a winter 2023 release.
