Amanda Deibert And Carlo Cid Lauro To Chart The New Adventures Of ‘Darkwing Duck’

by Erik Amaya

Earlier today, Dynamite released a number of striking covers for their upcoming Darkwing Duck comic book, but had not yet confirmed a creative team. That all changed a few hours later when they made clear the who of the new series.

Writer Amanda Deibert, artist Carlo Cid Lauro, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry will be delving further into St. Canard and the duck behind DW’s shadowy disguise. “Darkwing Duck was huge when I was a kid, and I am thrilled to help introduce the fun, humor, and action-packed mystery to a new generation!,” Deibert said in a statement, adding “Let’s get Dangerous!” — the character’s catchphrase.

Editor Nate Cosby added, “Fans of the original TV series are in for a total treat, because Amanda and Carlo are conjuring up a hilarious, thrill-filled adventure series that’s directly connected with the classic feel of the show, but 100% accessible for new readers.”

The first story — “F.O.W.L. Play” — sees Darkwing in a new confrontation with Megavolt. The villain has taken out all the phones in town and it’s up to DW, his ally Launchpad McQuack, and some unexpected help from Drake Mallard’s adopted daughter Gosalyn to combat the threat of the electric evil-doer. But the latest escapade makes Mallard question the entire superhero business and he considers retiring. How long can he go without meting out justice and offering analogies for his ability to stop evil?

As mentioned earlier today, Lauro joins artists David Nakayama, Mirka Andolfo, Lesley “Leirix” Li, Jacob Edgar, Trish Forstner, and George Kambadais on cover art duties for the first issue.

Darkwing Duck #1 debuts in comic shops on January 4th, 2023.
