After over forty years in the professional wrestling industry, first-time experiences are rare for Arn Anderson, but on November 15th, the founder of the celebrated Four Horsemen wrestling stable will be celebrating a new first when his debut autobiographical graphic novel Arn Anderson: My Life as The Enforcer launches on Kickstarter Tuesday, November 15th in partnership with Source Point Press at www.ArnComic.com.
Arn Anderson says
I never wanted to be anything other than a pro wrestler my whole life. There was nothing in my early years that would indicate that this would somehow become a possibility until an unlikely meeting and an even more unlikely set of events would make for what is now a 40+ year career. This is that story in a comic book autobiography that is also largely a tribute to everyone who helped me along the way.
Having previously cultivated record-setting success with Butts in Seats: The Tony Schiavone Story, writer and Source Point Press Special Projects Manager Dirk Manning is excited to be bringing Arn’s story to life in a similar, but unique, graphic novel experience.
“Arn’s life is so fascinating that we could easily write several graphic novels about it – and maybe someday we will – but this book serves as a look at how his early years growing up in rural Georgia helped define his approach to the life of professional wrestling, including details and stories that have never been documented anywhere else ever before!”
The artistic duties on this 128-page graphic novel are divided among two illustrators. Colm Griffin, who illustrated the namesake chapter of the aforementioned Tony Schiavone graphic novel, will be illustrating all the flashback elements of the story, as told by Arn. The “present day” segments are then illustrated by Shawn Daley, whose previous works include graphic novels such as Samurai Grandpa from Source Point Press and Better Place from Top Shelf Comix/IDW.
“Working on this book has been one of the best experiences I have had in comics so far,” said Griffin. “Arn’s story is fascinating, and I feel very lucky and privileged to be asked to draw it. The freedom Arn, Dirk, and editor Drena Jo have given me to capture these moments is not lost on me, and I am very grateful to them for their trust in bringing this story to life visually. Mullets, muscles, and power slams. Who could say no to that?!?”
“Whether in comics or professional wrestling, we want to tell an impassioned story in only the way our respective mediums can offer, but there’s a fantastic amount of creative cross-over between the two,” added Daley. “As a lifelong fan of the art of professional wrestling, it has been a pleasure working with the team to bring one of the all-time greats stories to the comic page. Arn Anderson has always been an imposing force bell-to-bell, and the chance to bring that energy and power to comics has been a dream come true!”
Speaking to why taking this graphic novel to Kickstarter first, Manning explained that this approach will allow backers to get a Kickstarter Exclusive Hardcover edition of the book, as well as several other potential add-ons and Stretch Goals that will only be available through this campaign.
“Anyone who wants to have for themselves – or gift to a friend – everything we’ll be offering through this campaign should sign-up for notification now and make sure to pledge for what they want early! Remember, the more people who pledge, the more everyone gets!”
The prelaunch page for Arn Anderson: My Life as the Enforcer is now online at www.ArnComic.com, which will also host the 30-day Kickstarter page when the campaign goes live on November 15th.
