The Comicon Advent Calendar: Day 10 – ‘Mutts’ For Christmas

by Richard Bruton

Welcome back to The Comicon Advent Calendar, 25 days of comic goodness all the way through Advent. Today, it’s Patrick McDonnell’s Mutts

Mutts has been running since 1994, with Patrick McDonnell telling his sweet tales of Earl and Mooch and their owners and friends. It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, it’s got a sweetness to it, but it’s also never afraid to point out the darker side of things, particularly as regards animals and the planet.

Every year, McDonnell dedicates two weeks of Mutts to the Shelter Stories series, intending to raise awareness of shelter animals and those who look after them.

So, a little Christmas joy from Mutts right now… beginning with this set, the first Mutts christmas tales from 1994…

And seeing as we’re talking Mutts and the joy of pets and animals today, get generous this Christmas with some animal charities.

First, two of Patrick McDonnell’s suggested charities… Animal Rescue Team, working with US law enforcement to investigate the worst cases of animal abuse nationwide and Project V.E.T.S., that collects veterinary equipment, technology, and supplies, and distributes those items to 100+ animal welfare partners in 38 countries around the world.

In the USA support Best Friends, in the UK, give to the RSPCA, but even better, find your local animal shelter (support no-kill shelters!) and sanctuaries and give to them, or enquire about volunteering with them.
