Writer Chuck Brown Goes Back To The Beginning With ‘Dejah Thoris’
by Erik Amaya
Dejah Thoris returns again this March and writer Chuck Brown will take her back to the beginning.
As announced by Dynamite on Thursday, Brown will write the upcoming series, a prequel to even the first John Carter of Mars story by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Thousands of years before Carter’s first trip to Barsoom, Dejah is sheltered princess growing up ‘safe behind vast and thick palace walls and guarded by the greatest warriors in the land.’ But when her family is attacked by Kaldane Martians one day, she must travel the harsh wilds of Barsoom on a perilous quest to save her kingdom. Alongside her former Helium servant Roo and a young Green Martian named Hudd, Dejah must become a warrior and learn more about the diverse peoples and creatures of her world.
“As someone who has been enamored by the world of Barsoom and its inhabitants for a several years, I am truly excited to share this adventure with you,” Brown said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to fans joining me on this journey through the captivating world of Dejah Thoris and the Red Planet.”
Joining Brown for this tale are artist Emiliana Pinna, colorist Ellie Wright, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry. Pinna will also provide a cover for the first issue alongside variants from Lesley “Leirix” Li, Joseph Michael Linsner, Junggeun Yoon, Rebeca Puebla, Joshua “Sway” Swaby. Cosplayer Rachel Hollon and rising artist Jade Hope.
Deja Thoris #1 is set for debut in March.
