Review: ‘X-Terminators’ #5 Gets Vengeance
by Tony Thornley
X-Terminators started with Dazzler being betrayed by her boyfriend. It’s sort of spiraled out of control since then, but in the end it all comes back to that betrayal in the most gleeful way.

Leah Williams, Carlos Gomez, Bryan Valenza, and Travis Lanham bring the team’s adventures to a close… for now.
Dazzler, Wolverine, Jubilee and Boom Boom have pleaded their case. They’ve appeased both the Quiet Council and Dracula. They’ve even helped return their new Otherworld friends home. All’s left is a little revenge, and when these four are involved, you know it’s not going to be easy.

Williams has a lot of fun just cutting loose in this finale. She has a great sense of humor, and uses it to create some very fun situations to resolve the plot. Jubilee and Boom Boom get to annoy one of the villains to defeat. Dazzler uses zoning laws for the other. It’s silly but also very satisfying. The last pages there’s more to come, and I hope that’s the case, especially if Williams is back.
Gomez makes sure every since joke lands. He’s able to balance the action beats with the humor, treating every silly bit of the story completely straight. He has great pacing on the page too, moving the story along so it doesn’t just feel like an epilogue like it might under other artists. Valenza’s colors strike the right tone that helps create a silly and optimistic feel, rather than the darker, and scarier places it could be.

Even if we don’t get a follow-up series, this miniseries was damn near perfect, and frankly a lot of fun. It balanced T&A with actual storytelling. It used horror and comedy side by side without one overwhelming the other. It was simply a blast and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
X-Terminators #5 is available now from Marvel Comics.
