‘Willow’ Cancelled At Disney+

The great content impulsion continues.
Deadline reports Willow will not continue for a second season. The program, set 20 or so years after the events of the feature film, saw Willow (Warwick Davis) teaming up with a group of young adventures set on rescuing Madmartigan’s (Val Kilmer) son. With a pleasant mix of quips, adventure, magic, and young stars with CW good looks, it may not have been the series everyone wanted, but it was refreshing respite from a summer of more serious-minded fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Sadly, that respite did not hit whatever metrics Disney+ uses to measure success. Additionally, with its parent company looking to cut costs, the seemingly lukewarm response to the program on social media made it a much more attractive show to cancel.
Meanwhile, Disney+ continues to be the home of Star Wars and Marvel Studios shows, although it seems plans for both to churn out content will be curtailed as Disney plans for a downturn market. Nevertheless, a new season of The Mandalorian is currently streaming with Marvel’s Secret Invasion and a second season of Loki on the horizon. Subsequent programs will appear at a slower rate with Marvel’s Echo and the Star Wars series The Acolyte potentially pushed to 2024.
