TV Review: ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Season 2, Episode 16

Given that the previous episode ended on a pretty strong cliffhanger, it’s no surprise that the season finale of Star Wars: The Bad Batch picked up right where it left off. The Bad Batch have been in some tough situations before, but nohingt quite like this. They were sitting ducks for the Empire, and unfortunately, they wouldn’t get out of the situation without a casualty. Even more unfortunate, things didn’t get better from there. The episode was one punch after another — just a continuous downward spiral of things going from bad to worse that took fans’ hearts and squeezed them tight.

While stuck on the dangling tram, Tech (Dee Bradley Baker) got off in order to restart the system. Unfortunately, this resulted in him having to sacrifice himself in order for the rest of the squad to reach safety. Or at least, what they thought was safety. Tension between Cid (Rhea Perlman) and the Bad Batch had been building the entire season, and it ended with her selling them out to the Empire. The remaining members of the group managed to escape, but Omega (Michelle Ang) wasn’t so lucky. She was brought back to the same facility Crosshair was at, and it was revealed that the scientist experimenting on her was her genetic sister.

The ending of the season seems to have a very similar feel to it as The Empire Strikes Back. It puts the heroes at a significantly low point with the Empire having the upper hand. Tech is presumed dead. Their attempt to save Crosshair met complete failure. Cid betrayed them. And Omega had been captured, which is what the Empire wanted all along. It’s unclear where the next season will go from here, but hopefully the show won’t torture fans next season the same way it did this year. There is still a lot of unknowns as far as the Bad Batch’s future goes. Maybe they will get their happy ending on Pabu after all.
