Preview: More Classic Brit Comics In ‘The 10,000 Disasters Of Dort’ – Are You Ready To Face The End Of The World?

by Richard Bruton

Another of the Treasury Of British Comics collections of classic British comics of a bygone age – The 10,000 Disasters Of Dort is a race against mankind’s destruction!

Originally serialised in Lion in the late 60s and early ’70s, The 10,000 Disasters of Dort is another fine example of the chaos and invention that came from classic Brit comics.

In the year 2,000, the aliens from Dort have just 50 years before their homeworld collides with its sun. Facing their imminent destruction, their dictator leader, Ratta, has a plan. Unfortunately for the people of Earth, that plan involves wiping them out to establish Earth as the new Dort!

So, how best to wipe out mankind? Well, Ratta’s plan involves sending ten thousand disasters to eradicate humanity. No, he’s not a nice alien.

Now, Earth have just one hope, Britain’s best scientist, Professor Mike Dauntless, is the only one with noth the intellect and unshakable spirit to stop Ratta from destroying humankind. It also helps that Ratta appears on Earth and explains exactly what he intends to do. Sure, he may be a merciless dictator but he knows nothing about the element of surprise.

So prepare yourself for disaster – giant monstrous beasts, deadly flora, humans driven mad and turned into killers, even a threat to Britain’s tea drinkers! And that’s just the start of the disasters that threaten the world!

The 10,000 Disasters of Dort originally ran in Lion in 1968 but was then reprinted in 1974 with a new conclusion, altering the final two episodes with new, unfortunately unknown, writer and artist.

This reprint collection, with the usual excellent reproduction of the Treasury, includes the complete 10,000 Disasters, including the mysterious final two instalments as added extras.

10,000 Disaster is written by Mike Butterworth, the writer behind the legendary series The Rise and Fall of The Trigan Empire, and with typically stunning artwork by Luis Bermejo and José Ortiz.
