TV Review: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3, Episode 8

It’s odd to see such a culmination in just a season finale.
Fan reception to this season of The Mandalorian has been mixed. There have been high stakes, action-packed episodes, and slower, stand alone episodes focusing on other aspects of the Star Wars universe. But there’s little doubt that the season finale delivered in the best ways possible. There was unbelievable action, incredibly heartfelt moments, and special effects to rival even the biggest blockbuster films. It was such a triumphant episode that it ended on a pretty solid note, raising the question of just where the series can go from here?
After Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) capture last episode, he manages to break free with the help of Grogu. Meanwhile, Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) calls for reinforcements from the other Mandalorians. They all storm the Imperial base and engage in all out warfare with the Dark Troopers. After finding the location of Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) command center, Djarin destroys a batch of clones that was supposed to be able to tap into the Force. Gideon, Bo-Katan, Grogu, and Djarin all engage in a big fight that ends with the Mandalorians’ cruiser crashing into the base. They reclaim their home planet, and Djarin heads out with newly named Din Grogu as his official apprentice.
The ending to this episode was so solid it almost feels like a series finale. The Mandalorian has a home of his own with Grogu as his adopted son. He’s also set to begin working with the New Republic. It’s unclear if there will be a new season of The Mandalorian — executive producer Jon Favreau claims a fourth run is already written — but with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) on the horizon, it certainly is possible that this duo will get drawn into the conflict with him. One thing’s for certain, though: Star Wars has never been stronger than it has on Disney+.
