TV Review: ‘Gotham Knights’ Season 1, Episode 10

It’s hard to judge anything that’s going on in Gotham Knights because the show just moves so slowly that the plot and characterization are hard to decipher. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. As an action-packed superhero show it certainly fails. But it provides some nice character drama while touching upon a new version of the Batman mythos. Fans that are wanting to see something akin to a superhero feature film or series on a streaming service will be disappointed. But traditional CW fans will enjoy it more. Still, unless the pacing picks up, even that demographic might be put to sleep.
At the end of the previous episode, Turner (Oscar Morgan) came down with a mysterious sickness. It turns out that the substance that brought him back to life also poisoned him with radiation. This caused Carrie (Navia Robinson) to reveal the truth about her secret to her mother in order to save Turner. Meanwhile, Brody March (Rahart Adams) discovered the truth about his father. And after confiding in his mother, it was revealed that she was also a member of the Court and killed him in cold blood. But in the show’s closing moments, his father brought him back to life.
There were essentially three plot lines to this episode. One was fairly boring while the other contrived and nonsensical. It’s no surprise that the third storyline actually had some meat to it because it focused on a mainstay of Batman mythology. Seeing Harvey Dent’s (Misha Collins) descent into madness has been a highlight of the show. But it’s taking way too long to develop. It’s definitely a new and interesting version of the character that fans can rally behind. But if it doesn’t deliver on a climax soon, the show will be lost entirely.
