Anime Expo 2023: Studio Trigger Announces New ‘Panty and Stocking’ Project

At Anime Expo 2023 Studio Trigger announced that it would be revitalizing Panty and Stocking with a new anime project. The original Panty and Stocking followed two unruly angels as they battle ghosts in Daten City. But this task requires unconventional weapons for these unorthodox angels—they transform their lingerie into weapons to dispatch the spirits. Unfortunately, neither of them take their duties seriously, as they rather spend their time in pursuit of other “hobbies”: Panty prefers to sleep with anything that walks, and Stocking favors stuffing her face with sweets than hunting ghosts.
The anime was a cult hit that remained in limbo for 13 years. But now, Studio Trigger has finally acquired the rites to Panty and Stocking and a new anime project is currently in development. The original Panty and Stocking was known for being even more filthy than most Adult Swim shows. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi assured fans that they wouldn’t be pulling any punches. Trigger added jokingly that they’ve got enough Panty and Stocking ideas for ten seasons and a movie. Trigger was able to balance provocative subject matter with an impactful story in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, so I have full confidence that they can bring back Panty and Stocking and make it better than ever!
