SDCC 2023: ‘Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Comes To Dynamite

Ahead of Comic-Con International: San Diego 2023, the announcements keep coming.
Dynamite announced Wednesday that it has made a deal to bring Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas to comics. Jack, Sally, and the rest of Halloween Town will make their way to the four-color pages courtesy of Torunn Grønbekk, writer of Dynamite’s current Red Sonja series. The comic is expected in 2024, but Dynamite said more details will be revealed or teased at Comic-Con during the Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: Publishing panel on Thursday (2pm PT in Room 28DE) and the Dynamite Entertainment Disney Titles 2023 on Sunday (11:30am PT in Room 23ABC).
The original film, directed by Henry Selick, debuted in 1993 and centered on Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King who starts to feel unsatisfied in his role. But a chance encounter with a crop of trees that portal to the other holiday zones leads him to discover a new goal: turn Halloween into Christmas! It goes about as well as you might think, but thanks to the stop-motion animation of Selick and his team, Burton’s character designs and story, and the music of Danny Elfman, The Nightmare Before Christmas became a perennial favorite.
It remains to be seen if the comic book will pick up after the events of the movie, but one imagines it will be welcomed by fans of the film and Burton.
