While the last few Marvel Netflix shows have streamed without teasers, Entertainment Weekly reports the former tradition returns at the end of Iron Fist‘s second season with a brief glimpse of Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) back in his black Daredevil suit while taking confession in a scene from Daredevil‘s upcoming third season.
The scene suggests Matt’s outlook has changed since surviving an entire building falling upon him. As he tells his confessor, “I once believed that justice could be found in the court of law and in the light of day, but I was fooling myself.” The born again Matt also states he’d rather “die as the Devil than live as Matt Murdock.”
One imagines Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) will be thrilled to hear that.
The course of the Daredevil series has seen Matt try to balance a daylight life as an attorney and his calling as a nighttime vigilante. If this scene is any indication, he’s finally chosen a side. Which means the program’s take on the “Born Again” storyline will go in strange directions. If Matt is ready to stop being Matt, then there isn’t much of a life for Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) to destroy — a key aspect of the comic book tale by Frank Miller and David David Mazzucchelli. Then again, this scene could occur after the Kingpin has destroyed what little life Matt had following the second season of Daredevil and the events of The Defenders.
Daredevil returns to Netflix later this year.
