Dark Horse And Hope Nicholson Reveal Stories Of Con Life In ‘Pros And (Comic) Cons’ Anthology

by Hannah Means Shannon

We’re delighted to make the announcement here on Comicon.com that Dark Horse has teamed up with editor Hope Nicholson for a new anthology, following on the heels of The Secret Loves Of Geek Girls and The Secret Loves Of Geeks.

As with those previous volumes, the new anthology will bring in a wide swath of comic creators as contributors, and take both a humorous and emotional approach to “personal stories by writers, artists, cartoonists, and professional geeks around the globe”.

In Pros and (Comic) Cons, we’ll find stories that explore the “mad world of comic conventions and the funny, sad, sweet, embarrassing, and heartfelt stories that go along with them”. These true-to-life stories include things like “surprise celebrity run-ins, fan encounters that changed creator’s lives, costume malfunctions, and practical advice for both new and experienced convention attendees”, according to Dark Horse.

If you’ve ever attended a comic convention as a fan or as a professional, you know that almost immediately there are stories to tell, to the point that it almost seems like a bonding prerequisite to exchange these stories will fellow con-goers. Well, now we’re getting a collective experience of that tale-sharing and presented in the medium we all love by many professionals we admire. What’s not to love?

The anthology will feature comics and essays by Brian Michael Bendis (The Man of Steel), Greg Pak (The Incredible Hercules), Jenn St-Onge (Nancy Drew), Tim Seeley (Hack + Slash), Kieron Gillen (The Wicked and the Divine), Sina Grace (Iceman), Amy Chu (Green Hornet) and many more.

The book sets out to “paint a picture of the geek culture life that shapes us, encourages us, and exhausts us every summer”, and sports a lovely cover by Colleen Coover.

Pros and (Comic) Cons TPB goes on sale May 29, 2019, and is available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop.
