Welcome To Ultra-Nationalist America In Little Bird #1 From Image Comics

by Olly MacNamee

And I thought some parts of America were pretty much ultra-nationalists already. But, not so. Not when you look at the remarkable pages released by Image Comics ahead of Little Bird #1’s debut on March 13th 2019. Little Bird is a new science-fiction mini-series by director/screenwriter Darcy Van Poelgees and artist Ian Bertram.

It’s a book that follows a young resistance fighter in a science-fiction style reminiscent of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s own work on The Last Incal and others. And we’ve got preview pages to show you. I can certainly see the Jodorowsky influence, but also a more European style too, akin to Moebius himself. Take a look and see what you think below.

In the world of Little Bird, North America has been devastated by three decades of war as the American Empire expands under an ultra-nationalist, theocratic government. But from the ashes of defeat rises Little Bird, a 12-year old girl who sets out to reignite the Canadian Resistance and discover her own identity in a world on fire.
