Announced back at 2017’s Anime Expo, Studio TRIGGER and XFLAG have given us another look at their upcoming film project, PROMARE. The film follows the Burning Rescue Fire Department as they battle against the BURNISH, a group capable of wielding flames and abusing them.
If the lead character for Promare, known as Galo Thymos, seems kind of familiar, that’s probably not an accident. The director and screen writer for Promare, Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashima respectively, were both a part of Gainax’s Gurren Lagann series. This explains why the Burning Rescue FD are supposed to be stopping all the destruction caused by the Burnish, but are doing so in gigantic robots which are as good at stopping fires as they are at punching the bad guys in the face.
Already known for their beautiful animation, from the looks of things Studio Trigger will be really stepping their game up for this. Supposedly it’s already spent roughly five years in development, PROMARE doesn’t have a specific date just yet, but will hit Japanese theaters this May 2019.
