Lion Forge Brings Webcomic Mooncakes To Print This October

by James Ferguson

Mooncakes, the webcomic from Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu, has found a home in print. Lion Forge Comics will be collecting the queer Chinese-American fantasy romance comic for the first time in October 2019.

Walker & Wu say:

Mooncakes is a labor of love. We set out to tell a story of reunion—two childhood crushes who find each other again to find out whether their friendship could be something more. Nova and Tam’s love thrives in a rich, vibrant world of magic, demons, and elder witches, and their journey is a reflection of all we value as creators. We couldn’t be more thrilled that Lion Forge is releasing it in print, and we are so excited to share Nova and Tam’s story with the world!

Mooncakes follows Nova Huang, who knows more about magic than your average teen witch. She works at her grandmothers’ bookshop where she helps them loan out spell books and investigate any supernatural occurrences in their New England hometown. One night, while looking into reports of a white wolf in the woods, she runs into her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon. It turns out Tam is a werewolf who has been wondering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home.

She turns to Nova for help and their feelings for one another are rekindled. Together they’ll face witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and new and old family ties.

Mooncakes began online in 2015 and it’s been updated steadily on the first and fifteenth of every month. Lion Forge first announced it would publish a collection in 2017 and has now revealed the brand-new cover as well as the release date, October 2nd, 2019 for comic shops and October 15th, 2019 for bookstores.

The webcomic will resume on February 14th with pages uploaded weekly ahead of the print release in the Fall.
