Meet A New Kind Of Superhero In “Raising Dion” Trailer

by Erik Amaya

Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming series Raising Dion. Based on the self-published comic by Dennis Liu and Jason Piperberg — and Liu’s subsequent short film — the series centers on Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), a woman whose young son, Dion (Ja’Siah Young), exhibits superpowers. He can turn invisible, generate plasma and has telekinetic abilities. To keep track of growing powers, Nicole enlists the help of a friend to film Dion at all times. Of course, a super-powered boy will eventually get noticed and Nicole realizes she’s being tailed by shadowy men. Meanwhile, Dion’s powers take a sinister turn. And as powerful storms are drawn to her son, will Nicole realize the truth about his abilities in time?

Judging from the trailer, the series will pay off on the potential seen in Liu’s short film. It also seems they expanded the world in interesting ways. Unfortunately, we expect Raising Dion will get lost in the shuffle as it debuts on October 4th. The week around it is a very busy time for comic book inspired shows as The Walking Dead and Supergirl return on October 6th and Batwoman also debuts the same day. Hopefully, though, the quality will shine through and the program carves out a nice niche for itself.

Raising Dion comes to Netflix on October 4th.
