Watch The Trailer For Hand- Drawn Animated Film Klaus

by Tito W. James

When I attended the Annecy International Animation festival there was much debate over hand drawn animation. Some studios think hand drawn animation is passé and that CGI animation will resonate better with young people. I don’t know where they’re getting their information because I, and many other animation students and pros, love the look and feel of hand drawn animation and would like to see more.

It appears that our prayers have been answered in Klaus, a hand drawn animated film from SPA Studios. The film focuses on the origin story of Santa Claus and has no relation to the comic of the same name and premise. In the film we follow the adventures of a young postman who makes an unlikely friendship with a reclusive toymaker.

I’m a tremendous fan of badass Santa Claus so I’m already on board. I look forward to SPA Studios reminding everyone of the beauty of hand drawn animation. I hope they make a 2D Blacksad movie next.

Klaus will be in select theaters and streaming on Netflix November 8th.
