Animated Series Announced In The Universe of League of Legends
by Tito W. James
I’ve been a fan of League of Legends animated shorts for quite some time. Their use of cell-shaded animation seamlessly blended the best of 2D and 3D graphics long before Spider-Verse hit theaters. That’s why I’m super excited that there will a be a full animated series that takes place within the world and esthetics of League of Legends. Not much is known about this new series titled Arcane, but fans of the game franchise can expect some familiar faces along with new characters.

The series will be animated by French animation studio Fortiche Prod, which previously worked with Riot Games on K/DA. It’s worth noting the inclusion of French animated talent. Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal was animated by studio La Cachette, and the animated shorts from Gobelins continue to impress. The rise of French animation is happening and could be as big as Anime in the next decade.

Arcane could prove to be a breakthrough series if it can deliver a high-quality story in a CG animated series. The 3D animation quality is already far beyond what I usually expect from TV, and the cell-shaded art style is still fresh even amongst animated feature films. Therefore, it’s safe to say that I have high hopes for Arcane.
